Christopher Luther – Biography– June 2007

Christopher is now a Masters student at the Thornton School of Music at the University of Southern California (USC), along with his sister Cosima, in the studio of the famous Eudice Shapiro.

Christopher Luther graduated from the Lamont School of Music at Denver University earning a Bachelors of Music degree in classical performance and finishing up another Bachelors of Music degree in jazz performance.

Luther has been the Concertmaster of the Colorado All-State Orchestra, Concertmaster at Denver School of the Arts, Concertmaster of the Colorado Young Symphonia, and Concertmaster of the Lamont Symphony Orchestra (Denver University’s award winning orchestra). He has played and toured in France, Germany, China, Japan and Canada in addition to his performances around America.  He began his public performance career at the age of eight at the Colorado Renaissance Festival.

Luther was accepted into the Lamont School of Music at Denver University with a full scholarship under Professor James Maurer.  He was Runner-up in the Honors Solo competition at Lamont School of Music as a sophomore, winner of the Lamont Chamber Competition playing Bartok’s 2nd String Quartet, and has been given the “Recital of Distinction” awarded for both junior and senior recitals. Luther received the “Senior of the Year” honor given to the top senior at the Lamont School of Music: an all expense-paid trip to Lamont’s sister school in Nagoya, Japan. Luther has been a recipient of the Partners in Scholarship grant two separate times.  He was given the “2005 MVP” award at the Lamont School of Music, the only award that is nominated and voted by the students. Luther is also a member of the Golden-Key Society.

In 1999, along with his father and sister, Luther founded Rocky Mountain Fiddle Camp (RMFC), a popular summer music event which draws students and artists from around the world.  Luther continues to play a key management role in the operation of RMFC, now entering its ninth successful season.

In addition to frequent professional engagements in the Denver area, recent activities include playing live on the Al Franken Show on Air America Radio, and a live concert on May 18 at the Newman Center for the Performing Arts featuring swing, bluegrass, and Celtic music. Luther is currently working on his first album, which will consist of exciting bluegrass music.
